Care Guide

Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Proper tattoo aftercare is essential for preserving the design, ensuring faster healing, and minimizing complications. A second-skin bandage is highly recommended as it protects the fresh tattoo from bacteria and contaminants while creating a breathable, waterproof barrier that reduces scabbing, friction, and irritation. This bandage also supports the skin's natural healing process by retaining plasma, which plays a vital role in tattoo healing.

For best healing results, we recommend leaving the second-skin bandage on for 3-5 days, as tattoos generally heal better when the bandage remains undisturbed for this period. However, because the adhesive stays in contact with the skin for several days, some redness or irritation around the edges of the bandage is normal once removed. This is simply a reaction to the adhesive and will usually settle within a day or two.

After removing the bandage, minimal application of tattoo balm can further aid healing. During the first two weeks, avoid excessive moisture, direct sunlight, and activities that cause excessive sweating. Reapply the bandage if necessary for heavily shaded tattoos. Following these steps with high-quality aftercare products will help your tattoo heal beautifully and maintain its longevity.

1. Protecting Your Tattoo with a Second-Skin Bandage

The second-skin bandage shields your tattoo during the critical early stages of healing, allowing oxygen to reach the skin while locking in essential fluids.

2. Applying Minimal Balm

After removing the bandage and once the tattoo is completely dry, begin applying a very small amount of tattoo balm if the tattoo feels dry or tight. If the tattoo is still weeping, allow it to dry a little longer before applying any balm. Use a thin layer 1-3 times daily for up to two weeks, ensuring the tattoo is not glistening after application. Overuse of balm can overhydrate the skin and may slow healing.

3. Important Precautions

4. Reapplying the Bandage (If Required)

For heavily shaded or colour-packed tattoos, a fresh second-skin bandage may be reapplied if necessary.

Remove the original bandage under a warm shower, gently clean the tattoo, allow it to dry completely, apply a very thin layer of balm only on the tattoo, and reapply a fresh bandage. Leave the second bandage on for a further 2-3 days.

Additional Tips

For best results, use the high-quality aftercare products recommended by your tattooist. Proper aftercare helps preserve your tattoo's appearance and promotes the best possible healing.

If you need to remove the bandage before the recommended time, gently clean the tattoo and wrap it in clean glad wrap for the first night only. Remove the glad wrap the following morning, wash the tattoo again and allow it to dry. Wait until the tattoo has completely settled before applying tattoo balm.

Touch-Ups

We offer one complimentary touch-up for your tattoo.

Please book a consultation 3-4 weeks after your tattoo appointment. This allows us to assess how your tattoo has healed and determine whether any touch-up work is required.

Please note that touch-ups requested after the 4-week period are at our discretion, as it becomes more difficult to determine whether any changes are related to the natural healing process or external factors.

Thank you again for choosing Sudsy & Son. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you again.

Happy healing!
